Is TSA down? User reports show problems with TSA
TSA runs tsa.gov and the MyTSA app: travelers check wait times, look up their PreCheck status and Known Traveler Number, and manage enrollment online.

Is TSA down right now?
For most travelers the site opens and the app answers. When tsa down reports climb, the pain concentrates in two tools: the PreCheck status lookup, and the enrollment and renewal flows behind it. This page tracks the live tsa status, so a wide tsa outage stands apart from a fault with your own details.
A distinction worth making early: this page watches the website and the app, not the checkpoint. A broken lookup does not close a lane, and a missing mark on a boarding pass is usually a details mismatch, not a system failure.
Is TSA down for me or everyone?
Test the tool, not the trip. If the status lookup loads but rejects your details, the service is up and your record is the question. If every page times out while reports climb here, it is everyone. The app and the website fail separately too: one sulking says little about the other.
The status check that finds nobody
The lookup asks for your full name, birth date, and passport number or Known Traveler Number, then shows your status and number. Its failures are picky: name and birth date must match the enrollment record exactly, and one character off reads as no such person.
Approval timing fools people too. Most applicants get their number within days, but some files take far longer, and the tool shows nothing until the number exists.
The renewal that is already in progress
Online renewal has a known snag: finish the form, submit, and meet a message saying a renewal is already in progress. A half finished earlier attempt usually sits in the system wearing your name. Repeated submissions stack duplicates on it. The cure is patience, then support, not a third try.
Touchless ID and the camera
The newer checkpoint option trades a photo check for the plastic card, and its failures are camera failures: the system stops talking, the match fails, the line moves on. When it fails, an officer checks your real ID. A down tool costs minutes, never the trip.
Wait times run on travelers
The app’s wait times lean partly on what travelers themselves report, so an empty or stale figure at a quiet hour can mean nobody fed it, not that it broke. Treat early morning numbers as guesses with good manners.
Common TSA Problems and Fixes
Status lookup faults lead the reports. Start with yours.
PreCheck status check finds no record
Re-enter your name and birth date exactly as on the ID you enrolled with, character for character. If you have your Known Traveler Number, search with it instead of the passport number. A fresh application may not have a number yet.
Renewal page says already in progress
Stop submitting: duplicates make the tangle worse. Clear your browser cache and try again the next day, since a stuck earlier attempt often clears on its own. If the message survives, support can see the pending attempt.
MyTSA app will not load or crashes
Update the app and restart the phone. The website carries the same wait times and tools, so a dead app costs convenience, not information. Empty wait times at a quiet hour may mean no fresh traveler reports yet.
KTN missing from your record online
The number lives in the status tool once an application is approved. If the tool shows a number, trust it: it reads the same record the checkpoints query, so copy it exactly into bookings.
Website pages time out or half load
Government sites lean on older parts that strict browsers strip. Try a private window or a second browser, and turn off blockers for the visit. If every page fails on two networks while reports climb here, waiting is the fix.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is TSA down right now?
Check the report chart on this page. The usual failure is partial: the status lookup or renewal flow sulking while the rest of the site answers. A lookup that rejects your details is speaking about your record, not an outage.
Why does the status check say no record found?
The details must match the enrollment record exactly: one wrong character in a name or birth date reads as nobody. Try the Known Traveler Number instead of a passport number.
How long until my Known Traveler Number appears?
Most applicants receive it within days; some applications take much longer. The lookup stays empty until the number is issued. An empty tool early on is a file in motion, not a lost application.
Why does renewal say already in progress?
An earlier unfinished attempt is parked in the system under your name. Submitting again piles duplicates onto it. Wait a day, retry once with a clear browser, and if it persists, ask support to read the pending record.
Why are app wait times empty or wrong?
The app leans on traveler reports, so quiet hours starve it. An empty figure means no fresh reports, not a closed checkpoint. Use the times as a rough guide.
What if is TSA down for me on the day I fly?
Your boarding pass and ID are the trip; the website is not. If the lookup fails, fly with your documents and ask the airline desk to confirm your number is on the booking.
