Is Trae down? User reports show no current problems with Trae
Trae is an AI code editor from ByteDance, built on the VS Code base, with chat, autocomplete, and an autonomous SOLO mode. When Trae down reports climb, this page tracks live Trae status, model errors, and sign-in faults.

Is Trae down right now?
No. Trae is running fine for most coders today. This page follows Trae status with live checks and Trae down reports from users. A green result means the sign-in service, the model servers, and the cloud tasks all answer as normal.
One broken part does not mean the whole editor is down. Chat can fail while autocomplete still works. Look at the fresh reports under this section before you change any settings.
Is Trae down for me or everyone?
Try the same account on the Trae website or a second computer. If sign-in fails in both spots, the fault sits on the server side. If the second device works, your local install, its cache, or your network is the weak point. A real Trae outage hits every mode at once, not just one panel.
How does SOLO mode build a whole project?
You describe the app in plain words. SOLO then plans the work, writes the files, runs terminal commands, and tests the result step by step. You watch each step land and can stop the run at any point.
IDE mode keeps you in the driver seat instead. Chat answers questions, inline edits change one file, and autocomplete fills the next lines. Many coders scaffold with SOLO, then polish by hand in IDE mode.
What burns through your Trae usage balance?
Paid plans meter AI work as a monthly dollar balance. Long SOLO runs with heavy file reads cost the most. Big repair loops also drain the pool, since each retry bills again. Free accounts get a smaller monthly allowance plus a set autocomplete count.
Why does Trae feel slow on big projects?
Trae reads your workspace to build context, and huge folders slow that scan down. Repair loops add more delay, because the agent re-reads files after each failed fix. Excluding build output and dependency folders speeds the index up a lot.
Can Trae use my VS Code extensions and settings?
Yes. Trae forks the VS Code code base, so most extensions, keybindings, and themes carry over on first launch. Your settings import during setup. A broken extension can still break the AI panel, so disable add-ons one by one when faults start after an install.
Common Trae Problems and Fixes
Most Trae faults sit in the sign-in state, the usage balance, or one stuck agent run. Run through the five fixes below and test a short chat after each one.
Sign-in fails or loops back
Sign out inside Trae, then sign in with the same method you used at signup. A Google login and an email login act as two different accounts. Clear the app cache if the loop survives.
SOLO run spins without progress
Stop the run from the task panel before it eats more balance. Read the last step it finished, then restart with a smaller slice of work. Naming the exact files to touch keeps the agent out of long repair loops.
Chat answers with a rate limit error
A 429 error means the model cluster behind Trae is busy, not that your account broke. Wait a few minutes and send the prompt again. Switching to a lighter model in the picker often gets an answer right away.
Autocomplete stopped suggesting code
Check the status bar toggle first; a muted completion icon blocks every suggestion. Then confirm your plan still holds autocomplete allowance for the month. Restarting the editor restores a stalled completion service in most cases.
Trae will not start after an update
Quit every Trae process, then launch the editor again. If it still fails, reinstall the newest build over the old one; your settings and projects stay in place. Roll back only when the fresh build crashes on launch.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does the Trae free plan include?
The free plan covers Auto mode chat, a limited monthly AI allowance, a set count of autocompletions, and two cloud tasks. SOLO mode and manual model choice sit on paid plans.
Why does Trae use a dollar balance instead of request counts?
Every model run costs a different amount of compute, so Trae meters real token use as dollars. Short chats cost cents. Long agent runs with many file reads cost far more.
What happens when my Trae balance hits zero?
Agent runs pause until the next cycle or until you turn on on-demand billing. The editor still opens, and your files stay untouched. Autocomplete keeps its own separate monthly count.
Does Trae work without an internet connection?
The editor opens local files offline, but chat, SOLO, and autocomplete all call cloud models. Those panels stop until the connection returns.
Can I bring my own API key to Trae?
Trae signs you into its own model pool, so chat and SOLO use the built-in picker. The separate open-source Trae Agent CLI accepts your own provider keys. The two tools share a name but not an account.
Where does Trae store my projects and chats?
Projects live as normal folders on your computer. Chat history sits inside the editor profile on that machine. Signing in on a second computer does not carry your local folders across.
