(for funsies I was doing this 2-3x/week at a 7kw chargepoint downtown, watching trains, but chargepoint puts a $50 hold on my credit balance every time I swipe so my credit card was getting completely bogged down in $50

Is ChargePoint down right now?
For most drivers the app opens and stations load. When chargepoint down reports climb, the failure that matters stands at the charger: a session that will not start though you did everything the screen asked. This page tracks the live chargepoint status from reports near you, so a wide chargepoint outage stands apart from a fault on your own phone.
When the handshake fails, each party blames the other two, and the driver holds the cable.
Is ChargePoint down for me or everyone?
If the map loads and other stations show live, the service is up and your charger or account is the story. Stations failing to start sessions across a city while reports climb here is the network case. A station lying about being free is neither: it is one charger misreporting itself.
Unable to detect a vehicle
The app’s coldest message arrives with the cable already in your hand: it cannot detect a vehicle, though the vehicle is plainly there, plugged in, waiting. The detection rides on the charger’s own signals, and a charger with weak or broken sensing reports an empty bay. Restarting the dance, unplug, re-plug, re-tap, sometimes talks it round.
When the tap fails, scan the station’s code in the app to start from the code instead.
Stations that swear they are free
The map shows a charger available; you arrive to find it occupied, broken, or behind a gate the map never mentioned. Status data travels slowly from charger to app, and a charger lying still in a fault can report itself ready for hours.
Authentication hurdles before a single electron
Sessions can demand more than a tap: account verification steps, a vehicle identification prompt at some stations, roaming drivers sent through extra screens. Stacked at a dark charger, they read as the network doubting you own your own car.
The home charger the app blocks
Home charger owners on roaming arrangements can find their own wall box restricted inside the app, with a message that the account must be linked before access is allowed. The linking flow is the only road through.
Common ChargePoint Problems and Fixes
Session start and status faults lead the reports. Start with yours.
Charge will not start from the app
Unplug fully, wait a breath, plug back in until it seats with a click, then start again. If tap-to-charge fails, scan the station’s code in the app to start from the code instead. A charger that refuses both is reporting itself wrongly: move to the next unit and report this one in the app.
Unable to detect a vehicle
Reseat the connector firmly and check the car is awake and ready for charging: some cars will not signal while asleep. Try starting from the station screen if it offers it. A charger that detects nothing across two cars is broken on its side: report it and move on.
Station shows available but is not
Trust your eyes over the green dot: status data lags, and faulted chargers can report ready. Check the charger’s own screen for a fault message the app never shows. Report the wrong status in the app so the next driver’s dot tells the truth.
Sign-in fails at the charger
Sign in before you arrive where possible: charger-side connectivity is the worst place to fight a login. Reset the password from the app’s own flow if needed, and keep the app updated,.
Home charger blocked in the app
Follow the account-linking flow the message names: the block is an account state, not a charger fault, and no restart clears it. Complete the linking on a steady connection at home, not at the wall box, and the charger opens once the accounts agree.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is ChargePoint down right now?
Check the report chart on this page. ChargePoint’s core fault is the session that will not start. If the map loads and a second charger starts fine, the network is up.
Why does the app say it cannot detect my vehicle?
The charger’s sensing is failing to see a plugged-in car. Reseat the cable until it clicks, wake the car, and retry. If another car gets the same message, the charger is at fault: report it in the app and use the next one.
How do I start if tap-to-charge fails?
Scan the station’s code with the app: the code path starts sessions without the tap. Some stations also start from their own screen. Two dead paths on one charger means the charger, not you.
Why did the map show a broken charger as available?
Status flows from charger to app with lag, and a faulted unit can report ready for hours. Reporting the bad status in the app fixes the dot for the next driver.
Why is my home charger restricted in the app?
Roaming arrangements require the home charger and the account to be linked before the app allows access. The block is an account state: complete the linking flow it names and the charger opens.
What if is ChargePoint down for me and my battery is low?
Try the station’s own screen or code path, then the next charger: single units fail alone far more often than networks do. Keep a second charging app for rival networks on the phone.
