Quiet right now. Nobody on Bluesky is saying BrowserStack is down.

Is BrowserStack Down Right Now?

No. BrowserStack is up and running right now, and no platform-wide outage has been announced. If your session will not start, the cause is usually on your side or inside one test run. This page tracks BrowserStack status with live user reports.

BrowserStack is a cloud testing platform used by developers and QA teams around the world. It runs websites and apps on thousands of real devices and browser versions. Teams use Live for manual checks and Automate or App Automate for test suites. When BrowserStack down time hits, whole release pipelines can stall, so even a short problem gets noticed fast.

Is BrowserStack Down for Me or Everyone?

Wondering is BrowserStack down for me or everyone? The graph above settles it fast. A flat line with few reports points to a local issue. Check your username and access key first, because a wrong key fails every session. Also confirm your plan still has free parallels. When reports spike for many users at once, treat it as a real BrowserStack outage and wait for the all-clear.

Why Do BrowserStack Sessions Fail to Start?

A session that spins and then dies is the most common complaint. Error codes like failed-to-start-browser mean the browser or device never launched. Sometimes the device is busy in cleanup after a previous user. Waiting a few minutes and retrying often fixes it.

Wrong capabilities cause the same symptom. A mismatched app file name in App Automate breaks session creation. Old Selenium or Appium versions can also fail against newer device images. Keep drivers updated and copy capability names from the platform generator.

Why Are Tests Stuck in the Queue?

Queue errors appear when every parallel slot on your plan is busy. The queue also has a size limit, and long CI runs hit it first. Spread test runs out, raise your parallel count, or remove slow retry loops. A stuck queue is a plan limit, not a site failure.

Why Does Local Testing Keep Disconnecting?

The BrowserStack Local binary links your machine to the cloud for testing internal sites. Firewalls, VPNs, and proxies often block that tunnel. Allow the binary through your firewall and close old Local processes before starting a new one. Two running copies fight each other and drop the connection.

Common BrowserStack Problems and Fixes

Session Will Not Start

Stop the session and start a fresh one on a different device or browser version. If the same error returns, copy the session ID and check the error code list. Most start failures clear after one retry on another device.

Tests Timing Out Mid-Run

Idle sessions end after 90 minutes of no activity by default. Send a keep-alive command or split very long suites into smaller runs. Raise the session timeout in your capabilities for long App Automate jobs.

Wrong Username or Access Key

A 401 error means the platform rejected your login details. Copy the username and access key again from your account page. Watch for extra spaces pasted at the end of the key in CI variables.

App Upload or Launch Failing

Check that the app ID in your test matches the file you uploaded last. Re-upload the build if the file name changed. Apps built for the wrong architecture will install but fail to open.

Dashboard Not Loading

Clear your browser cache and try a private window. Corporate networks sometimes block the dashboard websockets. Switching to another network for one test tells you if the block is local.

Frequently Asked Questions

What causes lag in a BrowserStack Live session, and how can I reduce it?

Lag comes from the distance between you and the data center running your device, plus your own connection speed. If the delay makes testing hard, start a new session and the system may place you on a closer device. Close other heavy downloads or streams on your network while you test.

Why does BrowserStack say my session limit is reached?

Your plan runs a fixed number of parallel sessions. The error appears when all slots are busy or a session passed the two-hour limit. Wait for a slot or upgrade the plan.

Why does my BrowserStack test keep timing out?

Idle sessions stop after 90 minutes by default. Long suites should be split into smaller runs, and the timeout can be raised in your test settings.

Why can’t BrowserStack Local connect?

A firewall, VPN, or proxy is blocking the tunnel in most cases. Allow the Local binary through and close older copies of the tool before retrying.

Why did my app fail to launch on a real device?

The app file name or app ID in your test usually does not match the uploaded build. Re-upload the file and copy the new app ID into your capabilities.

How do I check BrowserStack status during an outage?

Use the graph on this page and the report button above. Wide spikes in reports mean a platform problem, while a calm graph points to your own setup.
