Is Augment Code down right now?
No. Augment Code runs normally for most teams right now. This page follows Augment Code status with live checks, and Augment Code down reports from developers land here first.
A single surface can break alone. The chat panel can stall while the index stays healthy. Check the newest reports before you reinstall anything.
Is Augment Code down for me or everyone?
Open a second workspace or the web console. If both fail to answer, the fault sits with the service. If the second workspace runs fine, your local index or editor copy is the problem. Matching reports here tell you the fault is shared.
How does the Context Engine read a whole repo?
The engine builds a live map of your code. It tracks files, call paths, and history across services. Answers then pull the right chunks from far corners of the repo.
The map refreshes as you save. A huge first index takes a while, then small changes land fast. A stale map explains answers that cite deleted code.
What can the Auggie CLI do on its own?
Auggie runs the agent from your terminal. It reads the same index, edits files, and prints each step for review. Scripts can call it inside build pipelines and review flows. A login lasts across sessions until you sign out or the token expires.
Why does Augment lose track of my files?
The index skips folders your ignore rules exclude. Generated files and vendored code often sit outside the map by design. A moved folder confuses older index data until a rebuild finishes. When answers feel blind, a fresh index beats a reinstall, and a real Augment Code outage looks the same until reports clear the service.
Can Augment Code work with my editor?
Extensions cover VS Code and the JetBrains family, plus a Vim plugin for terminal fans. All of them share one account and one index per workspace. Settings sync through your Augment account, so a new machine starts close to your old setup.
Common Augment Code Problems and Fixes
Augment faults usually trace to the login token, the index, or one bad workspace. Run the five fixes below and test a short prompt after each.
Login fails or loops in the browser
Sign out from the extension menu first. Then sign in again and finish the browser step in your default browser. A blocked cookie stops the token from landing. Work networks with strict proxies break the handoff often.
Indexing spins forever
Watch the index progress bar in the status area. Giant folders like build output slow the first pass hard. Add heavy folders to your ignore file, then restart the index. Leave the editor open until the first full pass ends.
Chat times out on big questions
Narrow the question to one folder or one flow. Whole-repo questions cost the longest wait. Split the ask into two smaller prompts. A slow network stretches every answer, so test on a wired link.
The extension panel stays blank
Reload the editor window from the command palette. A blank panel often follows a half-finished extension update. Reinstall the extension if the panel stays dark. Your index lives on the service, so a reinstall loses nothing.
Auggie says not logged in
Run the login command again in your terminal. Expired tokens end CLI sessions without a clear warning. Check that the terminal uses the same account as your editor. A fresh token fixes the loop in most cases.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which editors does Augment Code support?
VS Code carries the main extension. JetBrains editors run a plugin with the same agent and index. A Vim and Neovim plugin covers terminal editors, and the Auggie CLI works with no editor at all.
How long does the first index take?
A small repo finishes in minutes. A monorepo with years of history takes far longer on the first pass. Later saves update the map in seconds, so the slow start happens once per workspace.
Does Augment Code store my source code?
The service builds an index to answer questions about your repo. Workspace settings control what leaves your machine. Teams on managed plans set tighter rules for storage and retention.
Why does Augment cite code I deleted?
The index has not caught up with your last saves. Give the refresh a moment after big deletions. A manual index rebuild clears ghost files for good.
Can I use Augment Code offline?
No. The agent and the context engine run as a service, so the editor needs a live connection. Local typing and plain editing still work offline. AI answers wait until the link returns.
What is the difference between chat and the agent?
Chat answers questions and drafts code in the panel. The agent takes steps on its own, editing files and running commands with your approval. Both read the same index of your repo.
