Is ATO down right now?

ATO online services are working for most people right now, and myTax is open for lodgments as normal.

This page follows the live ATO status from user reports. When an ATO outage starts, reports jump fast, since one fault can lock the website, the portals and myTax all at once.

Is ATO down for me or everyone?

If you are asking is ATO down for me, look at the graph above before you retry again and again. A tall spike means the fault is on the ATO side. A flat graph points to your sign-in, browser or connection.

Error screens and the A701.11 message

The A701.11 unexpected error is the screen people meet most in a fault. The site shows it, or a plain unavailable page, when the systems behind the website stop answering.

Other faults are quieter. Pages load at a crawl, forms time out halfway, and a lodgment can sit without a receipt. Each retry adds load, so slow and broken often arrive together.

myTax taken offline during faults

myTax is the service people feel first, since it is the main way most people lodge their own return. In a bad fault the ATO pulls myTax offline fully, rather than leave it half working.

Planned maintenance windows

The ATO also takes its online services down for planned maintenance on a set schedule. In those windows the website shows a maintenance page and sign-ins stop, while the rest of the site stays readable.

Peak load at lodgment time

Lodgment peaks strain the systems hardest. Everyone arrives in the same weeks, sign-ins queue up, and slowness tips into errors. The same job often sails through at a quieter hour.

Common ATO Problems and Fixes

An ATO fault is often bigger than one account. These checks sort your side out before you wait on theirs.

A701.11 unexpected error on the website

Stop retrying for a while, since each attempt adds load during a fault. Check the graph on this page to see if reports are spiking. If they are, the error is on the ATO side and only time fixes it.

myTax will not open after myGov sign-in

Sign out of myGov fully, close the browser, then sign back in and open ATO services again. A stale session often blocks the handover between the two. Trying a different browser clears it when the session is stuck.

Lodgment stuck without a receipt

Do not lodge again straight away, since the first attempt can still be sitting in the system. Check your lodgment history in ATO online services first. If nothing shows after a wait, then lodge again from the start.

The site is slow at peak times

Shift the job to a quieter hour if you can, since peak load causes most of the crawl. Save your work as you go so a timeout costs less. Short sessions beat one long sitting when the site is straining.

Maintenance page will not clear

Planned maintenance ends on the schedule the ATO posts, and the page lifts on its own. Clear your browser cache if the page hangs around past that point. Then sign in fresh through myGov.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is myTax the same as ATO online services?

myTax is one part of ATO online services, the part that lodges your tax return. The wider service also holds refunds, super and account records. A fault can close myTax while the rest stays open.

Why does the ATO site show an unexpected error?

That screen means the systems behind the website stopped answering, not that your details are wrong. It shows up most during outages and heavy load. Wait, check the reports here, then try again later.

How do I sign in to ATO online services?

Sign in to myGov and open the ATO link on your account. The two accounts must be linked first. If the handover loops, sign right out, close the browser and start the sign-in again.

What should I do if my lodgment has no receipt?

Check the lodgment history inside ATO online services before doing anything else. A receipt can lag behind a slow system. Only lodge again once you are sure the first attempt never landed.

Does planned maintenance delete a saved return?

No. Maintenance pauses access, it does not wipe saved work. A return you saved stays on your account. Sign back in once the window ends and pick the return up where you left it.

When is the ATO site busiest?

The rush lands in the weeks when most people lodge their returns. Sign-ins slow down and errors climb in that window. Early or late sessions on the same day often run clean.
